Nihon Alps Wine Valley

This region is located in and around the large Matsumoto Basin. The Takase River runs through the center of the Azumino Basin, and it and its tributaries form many alluvial fans. Vineyards are scattered among these fans and benefit from good drainage and cool climate. One of its district, Yamabe, is said to be the birthplace of viticulture in Nagano prefecture.
